Masoor Dal with Ajwain

This is a recipe low on fat.
Red lentils will also work here, but they may take a little longer to cook.
1 cup masoor dal
4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/8 teaspoon oil
1/2 teaspoon ajwain seeds (or substitute thyme or more cumin seeds)
